Step by step

Method

4 steps

  1. 1

Add 2 cups milk (dairy or oat/almond), 1 teaspoon ground turmeric (or ½ teaspoon for a milder cup), ¼ teaspoon ground ginger (or a thin slice of fresh ginger), ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1–2 teaspoons honey, ¼ teaspoon vanilla, and a tiny pinch of black pepper if using to a small saucepan. Whisk to loosen the spices so they don't clump.

  2. 2

Warm over medium-low heat, whisking often, until steaming and lightly foamy, 3–5 minutes. Don't boil hard — boiling makes a milk skin and the turmeric can taste harsh.

  3. 3

Taste and add another drizzle of honey or a pinch more turmeric. Strain if you used fresh ginger.

  4. 4

Pour into a mug, dust with a little cinnamon, and serve warm. You want a warm, golden turmeric latte that tastes earthy-sweet with a ginger-cinnamon finish — not a gritty yellow sludge or a mug of plain milk with spice floating on top.
