    Heat the oven to 400°F. Stir the softened butter, parsley, oregano, basil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper into a spreadable paste.

    If the thick end of a breast is more than ¾ inch thick, cover it and gently pound that end until the piece is about ½–¾ inch throughout. Pat the chicken dry.

    Place the breasts in a baking dish with a little space between them. Spread the garlic herb butter over the top of each one.

    Bake for about 20 minutes, checking the thickest part with a thermometer. Pull the chicken when it reaches 165°F; the exact time depends on its size.

    Rest the chicken for 5 minutes before slicing. Spoon any melted herb butter from the dish over the slices.
