    Pat roast dry. Mix salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder; rub all over the beef.

    Optional but worth it: heat oil in a skillet over medium-high and sear roast 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Transfer to a 6-quart slow cooker.

    Add onion and garlic around the beef. Whisk broth, Worcestershire, tomato paste, and oregano; pour over. Tuck in bay leaves.

    Cook on LOW 8–9 hours or HIGH 5–6 hours until the beef shreds easily. Discard bay leaves. Shred meat in the cooker, toss with juices, and taste for salt. Keep on WARM up to 2 hours.
