    Melt butter and chopped semisweet chocolate together until smooth. Cool 5 minutes. Whisk in both sugars, then the egg, yolk, and vanilla.

    Stir flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt together; fold into the chocolate mixture until a soft dough forms. Chill 30 minutes so scoops hold their shape.

    Heat oven to 375°F. Line a sheet with parchment. Scoop 2-tablespoon balls. Press a chocolate square into the center of each and pinch dough closed so no chocolate shows. Roll smooth.

    Bake 8–10 minutes until edges look set and tops look matte but centers still look soft. Cool on the sheet 3 minutes—centers stay molten if you serve warm. Dust with powdered sugar if you like.
