    Pat 1½ pounds chicken breasts dry and season both sides with salt and pepper. Cook them in a lightly oiled skillet or on a medium grill for about 5–7 minutes per side, until the thickest part reaches 165°F.

    Brush the chicken with half of the barbecue sauce during the last 2 minutes. Turn once so the sauce gets sticky but does not burn, then rest the chicken on a board for 5 minutes before chopping.

    Whisk the ranch, remaining barbecue sauce, lime juice, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Chop the romaine, then add the tomatoes, corn, black beans, red onion, avocado, cheddar, cilantro, and green onions to a large bowl.

    Add the chopped chicken and toss gently. Drizzle in the BBQ ranch dressing a little at a time, tossing until the leaves are lightly coated. Serve right away with extra lime if you like.
