Air Fryer Chicken Wings

Crispy skin, juicy meat, and almost no mess—air-fried wings get that oven-crisp finish faster than a sheet pan. Season them boldly, cook in a single layer, and toss with your favorite sauce (or eat them plain).

Step by step

Method

6 steps

  1. 1

Pat the wings very dry with paper towels — wet skin won't crisp. If they're whole, cut at the joints into flats and drumettes and toss the tips.

  2. 2

Mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne in a large bowl or zip-top bag. Add the wings and toss until they're lightly coated; shake off any thick clumps.

  3. 3

Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 3–5 minutes. Toss or brush the wings with melted butter or oil so the coating grabs.

  4. 4

Set the wings in a single layer in the basket — no stacking. Air fry 10–12 minutes.

  5. 5

Flip or shake the basket, then cook another 10–12 minutes until the skin is deep golden and crisp and the thickest piece reads 165°F.

  6. 6

Rest 2–3 minutes so the juices settle. Toss with Buffalo sauce if you want them sticky, or pass ranch or blue cheese on the side.
